Number 17 seed Sabine Lisicki suffered a right shoulder injury trailing 6-3 1-0 and Sorana Cirstea won by retirement.

Sorana will now meet Agnieszka Radwanska in tomorrow’s  quarter finals. Last week in Stanford, Sorana lost to Agnieszka in the first round 6-0 6-1. Agnieszka also leads in their head to head series 2-1.

Sorana won her second round match against No. 4 seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in a hard-fought three-setter 16 64 76(5). It was the final mactch of the night in LA and the fourth consecutive third-set night match and second straight night match that ended in a third-set tiebreaker.  Sorana Cirstea, 19, eliminated Wozniacki earlier this year in the French Open where she made it all the way to the quarterfinals.

Sorana will play Sabine Lisicki of Germany in the third round. Sorana and Sabine met once before, in the final of the Tashkent WTA Open, sorana winning the matchand her first WTA title.
