Sorana won her second round match against No. 4 seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in a hard-fought three-setter 16 64 76(5). It was the final mactch of the night in LA and the fourth consecutive third-set night match and second straight night match that ended in a third-set tiebreaker.  Sorana Cirstea, 19, eliminated Wozniacki earlier this year in the French Open where she made it all the way to the quarterfinals.

Sorana will play Sabine Lisicki of Germany in the third round. Sorana and Sabine met once before, in the final of the Tashkent WTA Open, sorana winning the matchand her first WTA title.

Los Angeles Women’s Tennis Championships: Sorana Cirstea won today her first round match 6-4, 7-5 against Michelle Larcher De Brito of Portugal. With 11 aces served and a decent first serve percentage of 70%, Sorana advances into the second round of the LA tournament.

Sorana is now set to for a second round face-off with her friend Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.  They each won one of the two previous direct matches. Their last direct match between the two was at this year’s French Open when Sorana won 7-6, 7-5. Caroline had a good season so far this year, winning  at Eastbourne and Ponte Vedra Beach, playing 3 other finals and reaching the quarters 5 times.

All in all it looks like a tough second round for Sorana.
